HOW the HEATER TREATER® WORKS
and FAQ...

How it Works…

An FDA and World Health Approved water treatment media is loaded inside the filter cartridge. As the water passes through the filter this material slowly dissolves into the water supply where it provides two very important, but very different types of scale protection. First this material surrounds or encapsulates the calcium and magnesium ions which reduces the opportunity for these ions to crystallize (create scale) when heated. Secondly this material lays down a microscopic thin protective coating that does not allow any scale that may form from adhering to the interior of the tankless water heater. These two processes together provide effective scale protection for tankless water heaters, boilers and solar heating systems in hard water areas.

How Often Do the Filters Require Replacing...

A residential installation on a city or municipal water supply the filter should be replaced yearly.

A commercial installation on a city or municipal water supply the filter should be replaced every 6 months.

There are exceptions due to water quality, water usage etc.

What Purpose Does the Gauge Perform…

On the tHT-10 and tHT-20 units this gauge is a differential pressure gauge which measures the difference of the incoming water pressure against the outgoing water pressure. Reduction of the water pressure on the exit side of the unit is an indication of the filter cartridge has collected enough sediment, dirt, rust etc. to lower the pressure and reduce flow to the tankless water heater. When indicator is in the red zone it is time to replace the filter.

On the tHT-BB the gauge shows the water pressure on the exit side of the unit only. This is monitored and recorded with the initial installation. When the gauge shows a 10 psi reduction of pressure, it is time to replace the filter.

I Am Confused About the Filter Replacement Intervals – Do I replace Yearly or When the Gauge Indicates It's Time for A Change...

There are two reasons for replacing the filter…

The most important reason is to replace the filter before the treatment material loaded inside the filter is completely used up. If this material is not present it will not be able to protect the heater. For this reason we suggest replacing the filter using the intervals of yearly on residential installations and every 6 months on commercial installations.

The next reason is when the filter collects enough sediment, dirt, rust etc. that the operation of the heater is potentially affected due to reduced flow or low water pressure. The filter by capturing the sedimentation in the water has provided additional protection to the internal parts and operation of the heater. Excessive sedimentation can happen from various sources…old water distribution lines in a town or city, private wells, old plumbing, amount of water usage, distribution line repairs etc.

So a simple way to determine when to replace the filter is this…replace the filter using the suggested intervals - yearly for residential and every 6 months for commercial installations or when the gauge indicates a filter change is required prior to these intervals.

I See You Have 4 Different Units – How Do I Know Which One to Choose for My Application…

We made this very simple. The units are rated just like tankless water heaters in gallons per minute of water flow. Using the manufacturer’s specifications for your specific heater use the maximum GPM of hot water produced by this heater to match up to “the Heater Treater®”.

tHT-10….5.0 GPM - Single heater applications rated at less than 5.0 GPM
3/4" Inlet & Outlet

tHT-20….9.8 GPM - Single heater applications rated at less than 9.8 GPM
3/4" Inlet & Outlet

tHT-BB…15.0 GPM - Single or double heater applications 15.0 total rated GPM
1" Inlet & Outlet

tHT-BB-HFC-50….50.0 GPM - Multiple heaters with a combined flow rate of less than 50 GPM
1.5" Inlet & Outlet

Does “the Heater Treater®” Have a Warranty…

Yes…each unit carries a limited 3 year warranty for material and workmanship. Each unit also comes serial numbered and with a warranty card that can be mailed in or entered online.

Any Restrictions on Where the Units Can be Installed…

The units can be installed inside or outside. Use common sense when installing - protect from freezing and if possible keep out of direct sunlight.
